Yau H. Chan
Founder · Intellectual Property Specialist
Yau H. Chan is the founder of YHC Intellectual Property and an intellectual property specialist who helps high-achieving STEM professionals and technology companies secure critical patent protection. He focuses on translating complex technical accomplishments into clear, persuasive patent filings and strategically aligned IP portfolios.
In addition to traditional engineering technologies, Yau has substantial experience guiding fintech and other software-related inventions through the USPTO’s §101 subject-matter eligibility framework. He is skilled in developing application narratives that withstand Alice/Mayo scrutiny while preserving claim scope. His approach balances legal strategy with practical, commercially grounded insight for fintech/software clients who often face heightened eligibility challenges.
Based in the United Kingdom, Yau works with clients across the United States, Europe, and Asia. He had prepared and prosecuted patent applications and had represented clients in patent prosecution matters before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). He also coordinates patent prosecution strategies worldwide, including in Mexico, Canada, the European Union, China, and other key markets.
Business & international background
As a business owner with over 15 years of experience in international trade, Yau understands cross-border commerce and cross-cultural communication from the inside. This commercial background allows him to view patents not just as legal documents, but as business assets that must support market entry, pricing power, and long-term competitive advantage.
